Minutes - Dow’s Lake Residents Association (DLRA) Monday September 22, 2025

Exec Attendees: Meghan Watkinson (President), Joey Montpellier (VP), Carmen Sanchez (Membership Coordinator), Sandra Dollin (Director-at-large) and Rebecca van Gijn (Secretary)

Absent: Monica Olney (Director-at-large) and Brian Carroll (Treasurer)

Glebe Association Updates (Meghan)

  • Clemow noise
  • Landsdowne – focus on $$ costs is the argument with the most weight. Will be a city counsel vote, so not much more we can do.
  • Mutchmor rink moving to Sylvia Holden (some residents upset by location choice)

Executive introductions round table

The Constitution / Size of the Executive

It was discussed that the issue of there being too many people on the executive had been raised by Members of the Association.

A decision was taken to have Sandra not be an “Official” member of the executive as a result (for voting purposes), but she will continue to volunteer.

Social Committee

  • It was discussed that the social committee would like to host an event in Nov/Dec.
  • Location is still TBD
    • Clemow was too small
    • GNAG is being considered among others

Discussed having a different price for members vs non-members and maybe a sliding scale if some residents needed.

Membership update

We are still missing reps for some streets Lakeside, carling, the village, 808 bronson

Other business

Complaints about fishing at Dow’s lake leaving behind hooks and fishing wire that is impacting the ecosystem.
We have seen authorities checking that people fishing are properly licensed. Perhaps we can raise the issue with NCC, consider designated areas, etc.?

Communication

It was decided that communication for the DLRA (including meeting minutes) would be posted on the Blog: Dowslake.blogspot.com (maintained by Sandra with ~monthly postings).

Email communication will go through the email contactdowslake@gmail.com when necessary.

Next Meeting

Next DLRA meeting was tentatively scheduled for Tuesday October 21, 2025.

Tentative agenda to include:

  • Update from Brian (treasurer)
  • The dock and pub, etc. (garbate)
  • Social committee update

Welcome to the DLRA

Hello and Welcome We are privileged to live in the Dow’s Lake area. Some of us have arrived  in the past few years, while others have been here for decades. Many  moved in to be within walking distance of work at (then) Energy, Mines &  Resources Canada or the Civic Hospital; others appreciated the “look and  feel” and proximity to downtown. Over time there have been proposals or events that have threatened our  peace and tranquility; sometimes there is a request from the City for input to its plans.  Happily, there have been neighbours who have volunteered to  play a role in preparing a coordinated response, or advocating to promote  best practices. Examples include:  liaising with the National Capital Commission each year,  to ensure that the Canadian Tulip Festival enables everyone to enjoy the tulips, while residents can still have easy access to our homes.  In recent years, volunteers have been working to provide input on ...
